Pastor Scott's Message Faith Alone is our theme this week. As we remember the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, we see that the Church goes off course when it adds to faith alone. It is only through faith that we receive salvation. Faith is a relationship started at baptism between God and us. The medieval church went beyond faith alone. They said that one could access the forgiveness of sins through indulgences as well. This meant a believer could purchase years off of purgatory for themselves as well as loved ones. Luther saw his beloved parishioners wasting their hard earned money on something Christ has already bought for them. On the cross Christ paid for our sins in full. He gives us this gift through faith. Money is irrelevant in this transaction. Live your life centered on this truth. You've been given a gift of faith. Tell other people about your gift because there is always more faith to go around. Jesus' death and resurrection is that powerful. Let us make sure that our church never forgets that. See you in worship. |
Doors and Windows Those of you that have attended any gathering in the Family Life center perhaps have noticed that the seals on the double pane windows that open onto the "Rose Garden" have been compromised. This is something that has been worsening over the past few years and has created a "fog" between the two panes of glass. This can only be remedied by replacement and monies for the effort have been approved in this year's expense budget. Having said all that, those who have been given the responsibility for the upkeep of our campus property began to think of an alternate and, perhaps, better solution. The "Rose Garden" is a space that could find new life if we had better access. Karen Frimel and Paul Barbercheck have agreed to help us create a vision of what a renewed exterior space might look like and what multipurpose activities it might support. Regardless of what vision we as a congregation ultimately agree to adopt, the first and certainly essential step in the process is to create that better access to the area. We need to replace one or both of the current window walls with large doorways. Money spent to replace windows would be money foolishly spent. The challenge: doors cost more than windows. We are in the process of looking at multiple vendors and assessing the added cost. In the meantime, we will be creating an opportunity for those who might want to support this effort financially. You can designate monies to a "Dollars for Doors" campaign. |
