Pastor Scott's Message Being open is crucial for a church. When you are open to new experiences, life is more fruitful. When you are open to new people, you will be blessed. When people are open to God's leading, he will take you places beyond your imagination. "We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide open" (2 Corinthians 6:11). I appreciate how you opened your heart to worshipping outside last weekend at the church picnic. How great is it to sing to the Lord under a canopy of trees! Being outside opens me up to worship differently than being inside. Maybe you experienced the same thing? Usually when I ask for prayer requests on a Sunday morning I get one or two responses. Outside, I got ten. Being in the open makes you feel more open. Open to God. Open to prayer. Open to share. I love how our congregation opens herself to others like CCLS. This week we opened our doors to a new school year. Dozens of kids excitedly walked through our doors. They see our place as a house of fun, learning and love. I can't wait to lead chapel because kids are open to all of my shenanigans. There will be an elevator behind the pulpit and a puppet who lives amongst the pews. Ask the Lord to keep your heart open. It allows blessing to pour forth.

Leadership Nominations The Leadership Council is accepting nominations for two members to serve on the Leadership Council to replace outgoing Council members Bruce Hartung and Andy Ryan and for nominations for two members to serve as Elders to replace outgoing Elders Robert Lubben and Ron Froesel. Each position on the Leadership Council and as an Elder carries a three-year term. Please let anyone on Leadership Council or the Elders know if you would like to nominate someone (including yourself) to fill one of these positions. We hope to have nominations no later than early-September so the Leadership Council can consider them and provide recommendations in advance of our October 2018 Voters' Meeting. |

Just a bomb jocket on a "bullet fainter" so the fellows call us...I am not joking when I say "InkLinks is on the ball." Keep up the scuttlebutt and everyone will be happy. Bob Keller AOM 2/C |
Operation Christmas Child It's that time again! Christmas! Time to start shopping for school supply bargains to fill our Operation Christmas Child boxes. As you might have noticed, there is a table of "goodies" in the Fellowship Room to help you fill those boxes. Please take as many boses and fillers as you would be willing to make up for children all over the world. Last year over 11 million gifts went to over 200 countries to express the love of Christ to the underprivileged and, more importantly, many unbelievers. Each box is opened, inspected, and a Bible study is included. Just try to imagine the dedicated hands doing such an enormous job! There are cardboard boxes (to be assembled) as well as instructions and suggestions as to what is appropriate to include. You can also use plastic shoe boxes. This year we cannot include candy or toothpaste due to customs regulations in several countries. Please include a $9 donation if possible in each box to defray the cost of shipping. Do not tape shut--use rubber bands instead. Last year we donated 68 boxes and I pray that this year we can touch even more kids with love, hope, and prayers. Blessings on your efforts. Contact Carol Froesel (822-1365) with any questions! |
Faith Support for Individuals with Loved Ones in Jail Through his role as Chaplain for the St. Louis County Jail, Pastor Vince Stanley has recognized the emotional stress placed on individuals and families when a loved one is in jail or prison. As a way to offer anonymous and confidential faith-based support for individuals who have loved ones currently or formerly incarcerated, Pastor Stanley will facilitate a one-hour support session on Thursday, August 16 at 7:00pm at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood. Please join this session and share this invitation with others who might benefit. |
Notes from the Music Director Sing! Sing! Sing! Choir! Choir! Choir! The first rehearsal will be on Wednesday, August 29 at 7:00pm in the Choir Room. I have chosen an outstanding program this fall including 6 new anthems! Come and see--come and sing! The choir sings 3 Sundays each month. If you have doubts about your singing ability please call or see me--in less than two minutes I can determine your voice range and will be happy to "blend you in" with the very dedicated regular choir members! Please read Psalms 147-150. |
Yard Work Volunteer Wanted We are looking for a volunteer to maintain the boxwood bushes on our campus. Bushes should be trimmed as necessary (2 to 3 times per year). It is estimated to take two to three hours to trim. We will provide a cordless trimmer unless you prefer to use you own. Please let Michelle know if you are willing to take responsibility for this seasonal task. |
