| | | Pastor Scott's Message God calls us to connect with our neighbors. Our church's motto is "Serving Christ, Serving Others." We have an opportunity to connect with our neighbors tomorrow at the Glendale Night Out and Ice Cream Social 6-8:30pm at North Glendale Elementary. I will be there wearing my blue Glendale Lutheran Church Polo shirt. I want everyone I meet to know that I represent our church. I hope you can be there, wearing your Glendale shirt, too! We want to make inroads into our neighborhood and the local school is a great place to do that. North Glendale Elementary was the site of our first worship service 75 years ago. Many of our kids went to that school. Most of our CCLS preschool kids will go to that school. We just reached our goal of collecting $7,500 for our 75th Anniversary. The new principal of North Glendale Elementary, Dr. Masa Massenburg, will be at our church on September 9 to receive the check at the beginning of the service. I have felt the love and faith of our people over the last year. Let's spread that to our community. Come to North Glendale tomorrow night for Ice Cream. Introduce yourself to other. If you are a resident of Glendale then these are the people next door. If you aren't a resident of Glendale, people will be impressed that you care enough to represent our church. Bring Jesus with you and he will make good things happen.

Leadership Nominations The Leadership Council is accepting nominations for two members to serve on the Leadership Council to replace outgoing Council members Bruce Hartung and Andy Ryan and for nominations for two members to serve as Elders to replace outgoing Elders Robert Lubben and Ron Froesel. Each position on the Leadership Council and as an Elder carries a three-year term. Please let anyone on Leadership Council or the Elders know if you would like to nominate someone (including yourself) to fill one of these positions. We hope to have nominations no later than early-September so the Leadership Council can consider them and provide recommendations in advance of our October 2018 Voters' Meeting. |
Tuesday Morning Women's Bible Study The Tuesday morning Women's Bible Study will be starting September 11 at 9:15am. We'll be doing "A Clash of Kingdoms" presented by Ray Vander Laan where he takes us through Paul's journey to "Be the Message." This 5 week study includes a short DVD with time for reflection, review of our study guide ($7) and prayers. You're welcome to stop by and join us for one or more sessions of study and fellowship. If you have any questions call Carol (822-1365) or Jeanne (821-0522). |
Thursday Evening Women's Bible Study Autumn is nearly here, and so is the Thursday Evening Women's Bible Study. Beginning on September 20th, this group will again be meeting the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:00pm. If you're interesting in joining or have any questions, please contact Cathie Albers at 314-882-2033. |
Altar Flowers There are flower openings for September 9, 16 and 30, as well as October 7. Please consider one of these dates to celebrate that special occasion. I am happy to announce that Kevin Metzler will be in charge of altar flowers beginning September 1. I want to thank you for your support while I was in charge.
Thank you! Beverly Dixson |
Glimpses from the Homefront June, 1945, Bremerton Washington Naval Hospital
I've seen the war thru the eyes of other servicemen. On staff at Naval Hospital for over a year...injured men and banged up ships...bring home pretty close just what's going on...a "dry land sailor" may not be as exciting...sure as the dickens a lot safer...I'm under instructions in psychiatry, becoming quite the psychiatrist....after the ware plan to come back to the drug store and give free psycho-analysis with each ice cream cone...not the "silent Yokum type," just gimme little old Glendale. Thanks for the Links. Paul Schumate, PhM2c |
Operation Christmas Child It's that time again! Christmas! Time to start shopping for school supply bargains to fill our Operation Christmas Child boxes. As you might have noticed, there is a table of "goodies" in the Fellowship Room to help you fill those boxes. Please take as many boses and fillers as you would be willing to make up for children all over the world. Last year over 11 million gifts went to over 200 countries to express the love of Christ to the underprivileged and, more importantly, many unbelievers. Each box is opened, inspected, and a Bible study is included. Just try to imagine the dedicated hands doing such an enormous job! There are cardboard boxes (to be assembled) as well as instructions and suggestions as to what is appropriate to include. You can also use plastic shoe boxes. This year we cannot include candy or toothpaste due to customs regulations in several countries. Please include a $9 donation if possible in each box to defray the cost of shipping. Do not tape shut--use rubber bands instead. Last year we donated 68 boxes and I pray that this year we can touch even more kids with love, hope, and prayers. Blessings on your efforts. Contact Carol Froesel (822-1365) with any questions! |
Notes from the Music Director Sing! Sing! Sing! Choir! Choir! Choir! The first rehearsal will be on Wednesday, August 29 at 7:00pm in the Choir Room. I have chosen an outstanding program this fall including 6 new anthems! Come and see--come and sing! The choir sings 3 Sundays each month. If you have doubts about your singing ability please call or see me--in less than two minutes I can determine your voice range and will be happy to "blend you in" with the very dedicated regular choir members! Please read Psalms 147-150. |
Yard Work Volunteer Wanted We are looking for a volunteer to maintain the boxwood bushes on our campus. Bushes should be trimmed as necessary (2 to 3 times per year). It is estimated to take two to three hours to trim. We will provide a cordless trimmer unless you prefer to use you own. Please let Michelle know if you are willing to take responsibility for this seasonal task. |
