Glimpses of Glendale Glendale Lutheran Church Newsletter | | | Pastor Scott's Message
One of the things I love to do is have in depth conversations with members. One of those conversations led to this Sunday’s Giving Seminar after worship during the Adult Bible Class in the Family Life Center. It will be led by Michael Barbercheck and Kelly Climer. Michael and I got coffee over the summer and I got to hear his life story. Hearing his testimony led us to this educational seminar.
Michael grew up at Glendale Lutheran Church. As a teenager he worked at Meramec Bluffs, a Lutheran assisted–living community. He found that he loved helping older people. He really connected with them. He discovered a calling. Whatever he did as a job he wanted to bless the older generation. In college he went into finance. He is now a financial adviser who loves protecting and guiding others including baby boomers and the greatest generation. God brought two vocations into one.
We decided over coffee that it would be great to have an educational opportunity where he could share his expertise about giving. This is not a sales pitch. It is a gift from him to the congregation. Assisting him is another member who has a similar vocation. Kelly Climer works for St. Jude’s hospital in charitable giving. They love Glendale and they love the Lord. It is a blessing for us to have these two resources.
If you would ever like to share your story over coffee, let me know. I love discovering all of the gifts of our people. | | | Sunday, September 15 - 9:15 am - Worship

| | | | Charitable Giving Seminar This Sunday | Are you curious about finding the most effective ways to donate? Find out what makes most sense for you! This coming Sunday, following the 9:15am service, please join us for an hour of learning where we will explore various strategies and opportunities for charitable giving. During the session, members Kelly Climer and Michael Barbercheck along with friend of GLC Brad Zimmerman will share their knowledge in how to most efficiently give to your church and favorite charities. | | The Sanctuary is in need of a bit of sprucing up before the Fall and Winter celebrations begin. Two short work days have been planned to clean and polish the pews...so mark your calendars! Friday, September 27 from 9:00 am til 11:00 am and Saturday September 28 from 9:00 am til 11:00 am. Please contact either Jeanne Clark at 821-0522 or Michelle Fiala in the church office if you plan to be available. Many hands will make short work and the pews will sparkle! Thank you for your help! Hope to see you there. | | On October 5, Hands On Kirkwood will hold its 9th Annual “Free Winter Clothing Store.” Items to collect include coats, hats, gloves, sweaters, boots, and jeans for men, women and especially children sizes. We are also collecting toys, bicycles, children's books and diapers along with children's new socks and underwear. Please make sure all items are clean and in good condition. This event provides winter clothing items for all ages to those in need within our community free of charge. It continues to grow each year. Last year we were able to bless close 400 people with over 14,000 clothing items plus many toys, books and bicycles when they visited our “free store.” Please help this event continue to grow by donating items to the collection box in the hallway. Thank you! | | Worship is: a holy conversation between God and His people. He speaks to us and we in turn voice our prayers and praise. | | Next Sunday's Bible Readings | | Amos 8:4-7; Galatians 4:1-20; Luke 16:1-15 | | | This Sunday - 9/15
